Q: Who is RNK Communications?
A:

RNK is a fully regulated telephone company, licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and headquartered in Dedham, MA. RNK has been in business for over 10 years and thinks of itself as the “little phone company with big ideas.” Unlike the larger phone companies, RNK realizes that the true value to you is in your phone number, which has become part of your identity, whereas your current service provider likely sees the value in the service associated with the number, which allows for additional charges.

Q:

What is Phone Number Bank?

A:

Phone Number Bank is the first solution of its kind that enables customers to keep their telephone number, regardless of their current telephone provider or their location. Whether customers are moving across the country, or simply want to consolidate the multiple phone numbers that they own, Phone Number Bank is the solution. With the customer's authorization, their telephone service provider will transfer their number to Phone Number Bank, allowing them to eliminate their phone line and forward calls to a personal phone of their choice (cell phone, home phone, office phone, etc). It’s that easy!

Q:

How do I check whether I can transfer my phone number to Phone Number Bank?

A.

Simply click HERE and enter your number.

Q:

What is an LOA and why do I need to complete it?

A:

An LOA is a "Letter of Authorization.” This is a document used by phone companies to verify ownership of a given telephone number and to allow another party to make a request to transfer your phone number on your behalf. By filling out this document you are authorizing Phone Number Bank to contact your existing phone company and request that your number be transferred to Phone Number Bank.

Q:

How can I check the status of my number transfer?

A:

While your number is being transferred from you current telephone service provider to Phone Number Bank, you can check your status in real-time by logging in to the “My Account” section of Phone Number Bank. Additionally, we will send you a confirmation email once the transfer has been finalized.

Q:

Why do you require the submission of personal information in the Letter of Authorization, including the last 4 digits of my Social Security Number and my date of birth, and what will you do with this information?

A:

Personal information is collected to verify your identity and ensure that you, yourself, intended to transfer your number to Phone Number Bank. Phone Number Bank ensures that your information is securely stored, and does not share your information with third parties (unless required to do so by law). When calling into customer service you will be asked to supply three pieces of personal information in order to request a change to your account. This process allows Phone Number Bank to prevent unauthorized changes to your account.

Q:

Will I be able to make outbound calls from my number once it’s transferred to Phone Number Bank?

A:

No.  Phone Number Bank is an inbound call service only. You must maintain an active phone line to which you may forward calls coming in to your Phone Number Bank number and from which you can make outbound calls (including dialing “9-1-1,” if necessary). All outbound calls made from your telephone will show the Caller ID associated with the number you are given by your primary telephone service provider, not the number provided to you by Phone Number Bank.

Q: When Do I Have Voicemail and How Do I Check Messages on My Account?
A: If you have not assigned a “Forward-to” number for your transferred number, all calls to this number will be sent to your Phone Number Bank voicemail. You may check your voicemail messages directly through the user interface of your Phone Number Bank account by logging in at http://www.phonenumberbank.com . As new voicemail messages are left for you, the “voicemail” section will list all of your voicemail messages as .WAV files that you can download/listen to and delete at your convenience, as well as provide you with the caller’s Caller ID information, day/time that the message was left, and duration of each voicemail message.

Q:

Can I cancel my existing phone service before my number has been transferred to Phone Number Bank?

A:

NO. If you cancel your existing phone service while Phone Number Bank is transferring your number, your previous telephone provider will be unable to transfer your number to us. Once you sign the “Letter of Authorization” for Phone Number Bank to request your number from your existing provider, your previous provider will terminate your service at that time. We recommend that you confirm cancellation of service with your provider once your number has been transferred successfully to Phone Number Bank.

Q:

How long does it take for Phone Number Bank to get my number from my current provider?

A:

With Phone Number Bank, your phone number will typically be transferred to us within a matter of days.  Once we receive your “Letter of Authorization” allowing Phone Number Bank to contact your existing telephone company to transfer your number, we will immediately put in the request and, in most cases, should have the number up and running with 5-15 business days depending on your previous telephone service provider.

Q:

How long can I store my number with Phone Number Bank?

A:

There is no limit to the amount of time - forever, if you choose!

Q:

How do I change the number that I want calls to be forwarded to?

A:

Changing your “forward-to” phone number is a breeze. Simply login to your personal Phone Number Bank account with the information sent in your original confirmation email. Once logged in, you will be able to quickly and easily change your “forward-to” number to the telephone of your choice as often as you want.

Q: Can I move multiple numbers using Phone Number Bank?
A: Yes. There is no limit to the quantity of numbers that you can have Phone Number Bank move for you. Simply go through the order process for each number and soon you will be able to consolidate all of your telephone needs. So, for example, if you are moving across country, but have a “home phone” line and a “home office” line that you want to take with you, Phone Number Bank is the one service that can handle all of your needs.

Q: Can I move my number out of Phone Number Bank once I am a customer?
A: Should you choose to cancel your Phone Number Bank service and move your number to another provider, while we will do everything we can to maintain you as a customer, we can certainly accommodate this request if this is your final decision. Similar to Phone Number Bank’s original “Letter of Authorization” required to move your number over to us, your new service provider should be able to provide a similar document so that Phone Number Bank can transfer the number to them.

Q: What are the costs of this service and how am I billed?
A: Phone Number Bank is offering a free 60-day trial to the first 1,000 customers who sign up for service. Phone Number Bank customers who miss the free trial opportunity pay a one-time activation fee, as well as a low, monthly recurring fee.
